Why Your Plant Leaves Turn Yellow — And What To Do

Almost every customer who messages us on WhatsApp asks the same question at some point: why are my plant's leaves turning yellow? The good news is, most of the time it is easy to fix.

1. Too much water

This is the most common reason in the UAE. If the leaves are yellow and soft, and the soil feels wet all the time, you are watering too often. Let the soil dry out before watering again.

2. Not enough water

If the leaves are yellow and also dry or crispy at the edges, the plant is thirsty. Check how long it has been since the last watering.

3. Too much direct sun

Some indoor plants like Peace Lily and Philodendron do not like strong direct sun through a window. The leaves can turn yellow or get white-ish burn marks. Move the plant a little further from the window.

4. Old age

Sometimes one or two old leaves at the bottom of the plant turn yellow and fall off. This is normal and nothing to worry about, it is just the plant growing new leaves at the top.

5. Needs food

If the plant is in the same pot and soil for more than a year, it may need fertilizer. Feed it once a month during the growing season, from March to October.

If you send us a photo on WhatsApp, our team can usually tell you which of these it is.
