How Much Water Do Plants Need in Dubai Summer?

Summer in the UAE is hard on plants. When the temperature goes above 40°C, water in the soil dries out much faster than in winter. But this does not mean you should water every plant every day.

Indoor plants like Snake Plant, ZZ Plant, and Money Plant do not need daily water even in summer. Check the soil with your finger first. If the top 2 to 3cm feels dry, then water it. If it still feels a little wet, wait one more day.

Outdoor plants like Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, and palms need more water in summer because they get direct sun. Water them early in the morning or after sunset, never in the middle of the day. Watering in strong sun can burn the leaves, and most of the water just evaporates before it reaches the roots.

Simple summer watering rule

  • Indoor plants: check the soil every 2-3 days, water only when dry
  • Outdoor plants and pots: water early morning or evening, almost daily in peak summer
  • Palms and trees in the ground: deep water 2-3 times a week is usually enough

If you are not sure, it is always safer to water a little less than a little more. Too much water is one of the biggest reasons plants die in the UAE, not too little.
