How to Reuse Grey Water for Your Garden

The UAE does a lot of work to bring clean water to every home, so it makes sense to not waste it. Grey water is water from things like washing vegetables or rinsing dishes without heavy soap or chemicals, and it can often be reused for outdoor plants.

What is safe to reuse

Water used to rinse vegetables, leftover water from a jug or glass, and water from an air conditioner (yes, AC units drip out clean water) are all good for the garden. Avoid water with strong soap, bleach, or chemicals, this can harm the soil.

How to use it

Collect this water in a bucket and use it on outdoor plants and trees, not on herbs or vegetables you plan to eat raw. Palms, Bougainvillea, and other tough outdoor plants are perfect for this, since they are not sensitive.

It will not cover all your garden's water needs, but every bucket you reuse is one less bucket from the tap. Small habits like this matter, especially in a hot climate where water use is already high.
